June 8th Five Question Friday

Here’s another round of Five Question Friday courtesy of My Little Life!

1. Did you do anything special for your kids on the last day of school? Or did you parents do anything special for you?

Obviously I don’t have kids, so I’m focusing on the latter part of this question. And I’m coming up with nothing. Usually we had to go to school a few days past the end of school with my mom, since she is a teacher. When I was in elementary school she taught kindergarten in the same school, and had the cutest, tiniest toilet in the bathroom off her classroom. But I digress. Nope, nothing special, but we had AWESOME summers so I don’t think anything special had to be done.

2. What’s your favorite summer tradition with your children?

Again, no kids. Bad question. I take my pugs for walks, does that count?

3. What was your favorite thing to do during the summer as a kid?

We had two things that we did every summer until I was in high school, and they were both AWESOME. We went to the pool (which happened to be where Pete & Pete was filmed) and swam all day long. But we also, for weeks on end, would spend time at my Grandma’s house down the shore. And while it was close to Seaside, it’s not the Jersey Shore you are thinking of. It was mostly old people and their grandkids. There was a snack bar, locker room, and saltwater pool for days when the surf was too rough. It was amazing, it makes me sad to think that my future hypothetical unborn children won’t grow up spending their entire summers there like I did.

That’s me on the right with my two younger sisters Rosh and Min, standing on the shore house’s back deck before heading to the beach for the day! I miss it!

4. How old were you when you were married? Were you a Bridezilla?

I was 24, but only a few weeks away from being 25. I don’t think I was a Bridezilla at all leading up to the wedding… I had a few nasty things happen to change our wedding planning but, especially after that stuff happened, I didn’t care about a lot of things. I picked a (black, J.Crew) dress for my bridesmaids but just told them black closed toe shoes and whatever hairstyle that was down or part down they wanted. I got them jewelry, nail polish, and their makeup application. I remember feeling very “whatever” about the little things I thought I’d care about, especially the closer it got.

The day of the wedding I was laid back about a lot, but still had certain expectations, like getting people organized for pictures. Or how I wouldn’t let anyone else tie the program bows. But that’s how I am, not me turning into a Bridezilla. But I did get pissed off about something right before the ceremony, and it really put me in a foul mood. I wish it hadn’t happened, or that I had been able to not let it bother me, because that really came close to ruining the hour before my wedding. See? My sister Min looks like she’s praying for someone to save her while I set up/bitch furiously.

I’m still bitter about how our wedding played out, start to finish, but given the situation we were put in we had a FANTASTIC wedding. Overall I would not classify myself as a Bridezilla. Maybe my bridesmaids can chime in and agree or disagree?

5. What is your favorite girl name? (I’m needing suggestions.)

One of my all-time favorite (and Big-Daddy NOT approved) girl names is Kitson, after this adorable girl came through sorority rush with that name. Yes, I realize it’s a store. And yes, I realize she did not go Sig Kap. But that name stuck with me. It will never, ever happen though. After getting married, I had to give up dreams for a name I love, Paige (rhymes with my last name.) I also really like but can’t use Shea. I really really liked the name Reagan too (because it was unusual and also because of the president) but it’s so popular now that I don’t think I’d be able to use it. I also adore grandma names like Eleanor and Delores but if Harper and Tessa make B hysterically laugh, then I doubt grandma names will make the cut. FYI- I’m saving all the names I really like and will NOT be sharing those! Oh and as per usual disclaimer that I am in no way, shape or form expecting.

Well minus the baby/wedding stuff, this is making me super excited for summer! Although I guess being in Florida now, it’s pretty much summer all year long. What would your perfect summer be?

  • My little brother totally hooked up with Kitson..and then peed in her bed when he came to visit me one weekend at Elon. Bahahaha.

  • I haven’t ever heard Kitson, before – still thinking about that one. This prompt made me really want kids. Also, money to afford kids.

And yes, you are in the land of (nearly) eternal summer. You’ll laugh when it’s January. I, however, wear a ski jacket.

  • My favorite name is a no no with my husband too!! I wanted to have an Emma, but he says absolutely not, no way never. I recently re-asked him and he said the same thing. It is a really sad thing… I should have never asked and when the time came, just named the baby when he wasn’t in the room.
