It’s Official!

Wow, it has been a crazy few weeks. This is probably the longest I’ve gone without posting. My birthday #27 came and went- and was wonderful!!! But I have been so absolutely swamped with work and stuff going on behind the scenes. I’m talking 60+ hours a week, easy. It’s hard to get home and blog after that. I have still been taking my daily instagram pictures though, so look for a lonnnng post of like a month’s worth soon.

So the whole move to Florida thing is 100% official now, since… I HAVE A JOB!

About a month ago, I noticed a job within my company was open in Florida. It’s a job that I would have been interested in either way, since it’s a step up from my position and would be a good next move. It’s a regional position that my company employs about two dozen or so of throughout the country. And the one opening happened to be in Florida, covering the region of Florida (except the panhandle.) I inquired, and it went from there.

The interview got me excited for the responsibilities of the position. The fact that we don’t have an office in Florida helped me, since there wasn’t overwhelming internal interest due to the location. Factors worked in my favor. And I guess they liked me, because I officially accepted their offer today!

Some details about the job: I’m going from hourly to salary. Which means no overtime… which is fine by me! I will also get paid monthly instead of weekly, which is kind of a weird change. As the main bill-payer in our house, I am oddly excited about getting them knocked out at once. It will also be a huge change for our entire family because it is a work from home position. We will likely be renting a three bedroom home so that we can give me my own office. The pugs will be SO happy to have someone to stare at all day. I will be taking notes from my work from home buddy Morgan… except you will NOT be seeing me in cute outfits like her during the week! Sorry… I am looking forward to jeans and t-shirts.

Working from home works out great for us because the car I drive – the Jeep – has more than 200,000 miles on it and isn’t paid off until October. I will be traveling between 10-20% of the time, but my company gets great rates on rental cars that I can pay for myself if the trip seems too risky for the old Jeep. It will live out it’s retirement in sunny Florida! I’ll also save money on gas… I alone spend about $200 on gas a month. That’s a huge difference!

The whole actual move portion of our move is frustrating me. It’s hard to find a house to rent! Apparently it’s even harder when you have three dogs. So if any of you live in Orlando or have contacts there that want to help us find a home to rent, let me know. I’ll take all the help I can get. Your grandma’s sister’s nephew’s brother-in-law’s cousin? Give them a call. I will buy you dinner when I arrive as a thank you! Or give you a pug to hide from a landlord. Either.

Our first requirements are that the rental house is convenient to B’s work, and that is allows 3 dogs without costing us too much more in deposits/pet rent. After that, we’d love 3 bedrooms, newer kitchen (since B is a chef!), a fenced yard, and tile floors. All of those are negotiable though… two large bedrooms would work, and we’d sacrifice the tile, fence, or nice kitchen if absolutely necessary for other amazing factors. I don’t think we have too much to ask! Keep your fingers crossed we can find something to move into mid-May.

I’m pretty much 100% ready to move. There isn’t a ton I’m going to miss, to be honest. I will miss my awesome coworkers of course, at both jobs. Besides coworkers and my online Indy friends, I only have a very small handful of friends here, and I will miss them dearly of course. Then there are some probably less important things that I am sort of torn up about leaving. Some local restaurants, naturally. Trader Joe’s is also a huge one. There’s one opening in Sarasota, which isn’t close, but I will probably find reasons to go there just for TJ’s chicken sausage. I will also deeply miss Kroger and it’s fuel points program. Every $100 you spend/month is .10 off/gallon for gas. I hear Publix is amazing, but no fuel program. Wah. I will also really miss my doctor and his staff, which might sound weird, but they are just amazing. I’ve had a lot of health issues in the last year and they’ve gone above and beyond in caring for me… it’s tough to find that, especially more than once.

I may have previously said that Florida was a state I’d never live in… well I guess I was wrong! And I’m a million times more excited than I thought I’d be! Everything is falling into place. I look forward to seeing what happens, and getting over this hump of change and busy-ness that has thrown me off my rhythm of tweeting, blogging, and facebooking. New home, new blog, and new beginning… all coming soon!

  • Ok, so don’t kill me, but I first ready “Daily instagram photos” as “daily sonogram photos” and I was like, UM, HELLO, HOW DID I MISS THAT?! Lol! CONGRATS on your new job!!!! Sounds like it was meant to be… and working from home?! I’m so jealous!!! Monthly pay is hard to get used to at first, the first few months on payday you’ll be like, I’m RICH! :o)

    You may be already checking craigslist, but I would highly suggest looking there if you haven’t. My husband and I rent our condo from a woman who owns the unit and we found her through craigslist. Our landlord is super awesome. She doesn’t charge us for our dog or cat at all. I think finding someone who owns their unit/house (and owns pets already) is the way to go! Good luck with your search!

  • Yay! Congrats on getting a job down in Florida! I can’t wait to hear about all of your adventures down there.

    Also, when we were looking for places to rent, almost every house that was pet friendly wanted no more than 2 cats/dogs. But if they did say they would accept 2, you should definitely try to work with the landlord/property management company if you find something awesome you really want to rent. We worked with a realtor to help us find our rental house, and she advised us that frequently they’ll accept an extra pet if you’re willing to put down a slightly bigger deposit. And it worked for us! Instead of just the regular $500 pet deposit that they quoted for 2 cats, we volunteered to put an extra $250 down to allow our 3rd cat. Definitely worth it, because it is so hard to find an actual rental listing that will say you can have more than 2 cats/dog, or at least it was for us.

  • I’m so excited for you!!! Moving and leaving things behind are always ridiculously tough, but you’ll get to know new places and things. Publix is great, for example, and I’m sure you’ll find an awesome store similar to Trader Joe’s :)

    Check out Winn-Dixie for fuel perks! Their program is similar to what you mentioned you love about Kroger. Admittedly, these stores are no where near as nice as Publix, but they have fuel perks, 5 cents off for every $50!

  • My SIL lives in Jacksonville, but she knows a lot of people in Orlando. Let me know if you want me to ask her for ideas on the house hunt front.

    Congrats!!!!! If we ever move to Florida (which is a thought since we have family in Jacksonville), we would move to Orlando.

    Congratulations, that’s really exciting!

    I work from home a majority of the time, and I will tell you it is a HUGE adjustment! Don’t be discouraged at first, because it will take time to get into a groove.

    My tips…
    1) Still spend time getting ready in the morning – this helps get you in the mind frame for working. All too often I find myself sitting in my pj’s and it’s 3:00 and I haven’t showered. Then it’s too late and you’re busy and you are a grub end of day.
    2) Don’t feel guilty for “charging” hours. Since you’re salary this might contribute to some guilt at first, asking yourself if you put in the sufficient amount of time. Just think about how productive you actually are in a full day in an office. Some days are just better than others. I spend too many a days up way past midnight working because of the guilt.
    3) Try and get outside – Since you have dogs this shouldn’t be a problem!

    And…Publix is awesome. I can’t live without it. Their lowfat frozen yogurt is my favorite thing ever, and I eat some flavor of it prettttty much every night.
