Bump Update – 28 Weeks

Hello third trimester! Baby and I have arrived!

28 Weeks (7/22/2013)

How far along? 28 weeks
Baby’s Size: Eggplant (or Chihuahua, per my Pregnant Chicken email today…)

Maternity clothes? Yes, loving my leggings and even thinking I might have to get some preggo yoga pants.
Best moment this week: Picking up our glider! (Which, for those of you who don’t speak preggo, is basically a rocking chair that glides instead of rocks.) I found a great used one for $50. It spurred me to do some organizing of baby’s stuff, too.
Miss anything? Feeling “normal.” I feel somehow off every day now. I barely feel my belly getting in the way, it’s more like the aches, pains, heartburn, nausea, that just seem to come and go with no rhyme or reason. I am starting to wonder if I’ll ever feel “normal” again.
Movement: Baby girl sure has her active periods! Sometimes she does kickboxing and I’ll feel kicks up high and then immediately down low, so I guess punches and kicks at once!
Food cravings: Everything. Just… everything.
Anything making you queasy or sick: The usual.
Gender: Beautiful little GIRL!
Labor signs: Nope.
Symptoms: My heartburn has been the most annoying one lately. The rest are just as per usual.
Belly button in or out? Innie still.
Happy or moody most of the time: It’s been mostly a great week. It’s always hard coming back from vacation but it’s been nice to settle back into normal life. I also enjoyed having a weekend at home to get things done!
Looking forward to: Picking up our nursery furniture sometime this week hopefully! We planned to get it delivered but for $99, no thanks. I’m loving checking things off our list before baby arrives! I just wish I had more stamina/ability to get things done. It’s hard when I have to take breaks and can’t lift heavy things!

So I think nesting has set in a bit. I’ve been looking forward to this point (no more traveling) for a while and BAM, now it’s “get ready” time. I even cleaned our vacuum this weekend. I went to vacuum, got a little grossed out by the Dyson itself, and just went to town. Did you know Dysons have filters? I surely did not realize that. Oh, and they’re supposed to be cleaned at least every 6 months. I’m going on… four years. Whoops.

I also find it crazy how I don’t feel super pregnant looking. Besides the kicks, my belly isn’t really in my way or something I notice much. Maybe it’s because I never had a flat belly, but besides my nausea/pain and slight waddle, I feel like I look normal. Then I see a picture like this and realize maybe I look a little pregnant.

(Yep, that’s B photo-bombing a bump selfie a week or two ago! He loves that baby girl so much already!)

I also had my glucose testing last week. Delicious orange drink… blegh. (Honestly, it wasn’t that bad.) I was supposed to have results “around Monday” (today) but haven’t heard yet. Having PCOS, I am already on Metformin, so that makes me more worried but also more confident at the same time! (Having PCOS means you have a higher risk for insulin resistance/pre-diabetes, though my PCP has always tested my glucose pre-pregnancy and it was always normal.) Either way, I’m just anxious to hear my results. I also got to meet with the doctor I like the most at this practice while I was there. We talked about finding a pediatrician, and about the hospital and how delivery works with them. My OB practice has multiple doctors, and one of them will always be on call at the hospital. The doctor I love, Dr. L (she’s almost too nice… and her positivity is contagious) is usually on call on Wednesdays, so I’m hoping baby girl decides to come 10/16 now! I am attempting to see other doctors for the remainder of my appointments though, just to get familiar. I’ve seen three different ones thus far.

I was glad to discuss the hospital with Dr. L. I had heard from friends what an amazing hospital it is- we plan to visit when B’s schedule gets normalized in the next few weeks. (Right now, scheduling anything ahead of time is a waste of time!) Dr. L said that the hospital, and the OB practice, are known for low C-section rates and good patient advocacy. The hospital also has only private rooms- she compared it to a luxe hotel! I cannot wait to see it for myself. Every appointment when we get into these details, it gets more real!

I just can’t wait for her to be here so I can obsess over her. I try, but can’t seem to imagine what she’s going to look like. I think that moment will blow my mind the most. I can’t wait! But please keep cooking, baby girl!
