The Comforts of Fall

Yesterday was the first day that felt like fall in Florida. A tad chilly, and breezy, but sunny.

I TOLD YOU IT WOULD HAPPEN. Take THAT, naysayers.

How did I celebrate? I did not. Because I was, and am, sick.

I think it’s a cold brought on by allergies brought on by my outside time running. OR, I could be allergic to running. Not sure which is more feasible.

It’s been building up for a few weeks (which is why I think allergies may be involved) but yesterday I woke up feeling like a bus hit me. So, I apologize for not being a great blog reader or commenter lately- I’ve been trying to blog and that alone has exhausted my energy. The last week or so, most nights I’ve been in bed around 8pm.

Since it’s fall, and I’m trying to get healthy, what better than to enjoy the comforts of fall!? Here are the things that are currently making me feel better!

Baked Potatoes

(source)

This is pretty much all I want to eat right now. Potatoes. I know I’m sick when I have perfectly good Brussels sprouts in my fridge and I go to the store for a potato. Except mine don’t look like the above. They look like a hot mess and I seriously do not care. They are THE CURE.

Hocus Pocus

Classic movies kept me going this weekend. I watched some good, some bad. Next up (since I fell asleep before I could watch it yesterday…)

(source)

The best part of Hocus Pocus for me is remembering what I wrongly took from it back in 6th grade. You know the part about a virgin lighting the candle? Well since Max had just moved to Salem, I somehow mixed up words and thought virgin meant a person new to a place. Like a foreigner. They sort of (not really) sound alike, right? This is all well and good, and would be a funny little memory, but I too had just moved to a new town in 6th grade. And attempted to write a story for the school paper about my new town, “through a virgin’s eyes.” SOMEHOW, it wasn’t picked up by my middle school’s paper. Shame and embarrassment.

Cinnabon Coffee Creamer

(source)

Listen, I love me some pumpkin spice coffee creamer. But Cinnabon is similar, more readily available, and – dare I say it – I think it tastes a little better? I barely need any sugar (if any) when using this creamer, too. It’s a major win. Thanks to my sister Rosh for introducing me. Since all I ate yesterday was coffee and carbs/starch, I’d say this improved my day tenfold.

Suede Nail Polish

Oh Julep, I love you.

(source)

I have been waiting for this for months. Suede nail polish is like a matte glitter that appears to have a suede-like texture. And I just selected mine for my November box!! They also just re-did their website, so if you haven’t checked out Julep Maven, now is the time! Remember that you can sign up and get your first Julep maven box for only one penny! (It’s usually $19.99.) Use invitation code 3865862 to give me referral credit, and then code MAVENINTRO for your first month to be a penny. You’ll get me a referral credit, but you’ll also get yourself my absolute favorite nail polish program! You can select your box each month- so you know what’s coming – and if you aren’t into that month you can ship it to a friend, or even skip it without penalty. If you have any questions, email/tweet/comment and I’ll answer all your questions!

Selecting my November box quite possibly made me feel a little less sick. I can’t wait for it! You will probably all hear my squeal of delight when my November Julep Maven package arrives. Warned in advance.

Tiny Pugs

When all else fails… I look at Indy.

(source)

Indy is a tiny little 11 pound pocket pug that I obsess over. Look at her tiny paws. I die.

I am friends with her mama on facebook and harassed asked her politely to post pictures of Indy and normal sized household objects, just to highlight her petite stature. A toaster. A dog toy. A can of soup. And thus began her tumblr, Indy Is Pretty Tiny. If you need a smile or pick me up… go check it out. When all else fails, Indy has me grinning ear to ear and actually laughing out loud at her cuteness.

What comforts of fall have you been enjoying lately?
