Happy Nail Files Friday everyone!
My nails are looking great this week, I went with a color that I’ve had for ages, but haven’t tried! I think I might have bought it when interviewing my friend Mallory last year for Lipsticktember 2011. It’s the most amazing indulgent army green.
Happy Earth Day to Me – Sephora by OPI
The website calls it an army brown but I definitely think it’s more green.
I also say “fashion” for this nail files because I got to see fashion blogger and “in real life” friend Katie from Ruffles and Truffles yesterday! (Remember the one picture we have together from college?)
She asked me about places to eat that were more casual aka shorts/tee shirts. And then she looked this cute. And I look frumpalicious. But it was wonderful to see Katie again regardless, and it was great to finally meet her husband as well!
I recently also got a great little package in the mail… my October Julep Maven box!
They threw in so many cute extras! My box came with Glenda (silver shatter) Leslie (black with silver shimmer) and Caroline (dark burgundy shimmer) and I added on Sofia (glow in the dark!!!) The add-ons are $4.99 for nail polish, and where else can I get a $14 value nail polish as fun as GLOW IN THE DARK for $5!?! They also sent along some delicious candy corn and two glitter pots – with a how-to for them on their website. I am dying to see what November’s box is. Fall/winter are my favorite times of year for nail polish and I cannot wait!
Right now you can sign up and get your first Julep maven box for only $9.99 with TWO extra polishes! (It’s usually $19.99.) Use my link: HTTP://JULEP.COM/?R=22278607 and use code YESMAVEN for your first month to be a penny. You’ll get me a referral credit, but you’ll also get yourself my absolute favorite nail polish program! Just make sure you go directly to the style quiz after clicking the link. If you browse the site first, re-click the link to take the style quiz. You can select your box each month- so you know what’s coming – and if you aren’t into that month you can ship it to a friend, or even skip it without penalty. OF COURSE, if you have any questions, email/tweet/comment and I’ll answer all your questions! You know I love talking nail polish!
I also need your help! I am going to a wedding in Indianapolis in a week, and have no idea what color to paint my nails. I am wearing a black dress, gold/nude strappy heels, and this necklace:
So tan/gold/black. I’m dealing with neutrals- ick. How do I elevate this look with a fun polish?
My first thought was to do Caroline from my Julep Maven box:
(source) It’s the one on the left that is a deep dark red color. There is a hint of shimmer in the polish. I love this color but I am afraid it’s a bit dark for me when I’m wearing black already.
Then I thought about the color I got from Klout Perks- essie’s Skirting the Issue (ps- I love you essie, but your colors on your website often DO NOT match the bottles!!!! This is a lot redder in real life.)
(source) I could put a sheer gold shimmer/glitter that I have over it to make it go with the gold in my outfit more.
I could go even more bold, with a red/orange color like OPI – A Roll in the Hague, which I showed you here when I wore it.
That would look awesome with that very sheer gold glitter/shimmer over it.
Or maybe go in a totally different direction with green? I’m struggling with the idea of using “cool” tones but this one might work- Butter London’s British Racing Green.
(source) I love this color but do worry about it being too cool toned for gold accents I’m wearing. I’m also open to a royal purple possibly, but I just don’t feel like I have the right purple for it.
Or maybe I should just suck it up, get over my “no neutrals,” and go with essie’s Case Study seen before on my blog here. But with gold crackle over it? I may be warming to the idea. Or maybe gold crackle over one of the above? I’m so confused!!!
Which color would you “vote” for as my Indy wedding weekend look? Link up for the Nail Files with Tara and Vicki for more nail inspiration!
Oh, and just because it was annoying but adorable… Sophie decided she wouldn’t eat this morning unless I hand fed her. Here’s the picture proof:
Truly a spoiled little brat who is ready for the weekend. Happy Friday, everyone!

The marroon color is the best choice, I think!
I think marroon color. Also enjoy Indy!! Where is the wedding. I’m from Indy :)
I also like the maroon, maybe with a gold shimmer. It’s a good standalone color too though! Also, how fun you got to see Katie!
I LOVE the red/orange color but the maroon is probably more appropriate for a wedding (and for fall)! So jealous you got to hang out with Katie!
I vote skirting the Essie!
Those Julep boxes look so neat. I’m tempted to get them. :) I like the red/orange idea with gold.
maroon!!
I added on Sophie too, I can’t wait to try it! I too love the burgundy- ox blood is so in. I’m so excited to be meeting a blogging friend this week in person- I have no IRL friends! Hope you’re having a great weekend chickadee!
I would vote for Caroline or British Racing Green! I like them the best :)
I wanted that Caroline color from Julep but wasn’t sure if I “needed” hehe may need to snag it!
I would suggest the mint julep red shimmer for your toes – god contrast against your shoes.
for your fingers i would totally rock a gold polish with a black dress the gold will stand out.
also keep your earrings simple :)
I didn’t know you knew Katie…like “knew” knew here before blogging! Too fun! I met her a couple years ago at BlogHer Food! I love that Butter green shade. You’re inspiring me, once again, to switch out my nail color—I think I will later today!
I like “Caroline” and “Skirting the Issue”. My pug also loves it when I hand feed her! She can be SO picky sometimes! I don’t understand how she can be so chubby yet hardly touches her food! And we are good about not feeding her people foods…
Go for a color! I would do Caroline only because it is new and from Julep! Love it!!
And OMG Buddy sometimes makes me hand feed him too! What is up with that?? Spoiled much??
I vote skirting the Essie too!!!
I’m clearly behind on my blog reading…oh life…
I’m so glad we got to meet up, even if only for a brief time! December…we will have a longer meetup!
…and you know how the skies opened up and poured for a few hours right after dinner? Um yeah…we were in the park when that happened…and it didn’t stop raining until almost midnight, so basically the entire time we were at Halloween Horror Nights. I stood in the rain wearing a poncho the entire night, completely soaked! That was…memorable…
