B’s 30th Birthday

Friday was Big Daddy’s 30th birthday!!!! I started dating him right after he turned 25, so it’s been just about five years since I first saw his cute face.

I somehow managed to throw him a small surprise party!!!! It’s nearly impossible for him to get off work on weekends, so I threw the party on Thursday, the day before his birthday. He caught a whiff of my plans so I had his aunt ask him to dinner, and he really believed that we were meeting her for a meal to celebrate his birthday and his internship offer.

I managed to get two dozen cupcakes in his car without him knowing, and when we got to Rock Bottom, his friends started waving and saying “Happy Birthday!” I pulled out his 1997 football button that I found, set up the cupcakes, and started celebrating.

Sadly this was the best pic we got of us! Check out my button!!!

The cupcakes (from my work, of course) featured photos of B as a kid. I made those by printing pictures on white cardstock, cutting them out, and gluing them onto toothpicks. We had peanut butter fudge, cookie dough stuffed, and Irish car bomb flavors!

We had a great, small group of B’s closest friends, and my two favorite ladies too! B’s best friend’s wife Amber…

And his pseudo-sister Lydia!

I got B two gifts… of course a cooking related gift, a rice cooker!

I also worked on a fun birthday project. I asked 30 of his friends and family members why there were glad he was born, then put them all down on paper. It was inspired by this project that I found on Pinterest. Instead of envelopes, I took a Birchbox box and decorated it to put the 30 notes in.

I was so touched by the notes people wrote for B.

Some were short and funny…

Others were elaborate.

B loved getting these notes and sentiments from his loved ones- it’s a gift I hope he’ll keep and treasure for years to come.

And in case you want to know what was previously in that box… here is my Birchbox for March!

I opted for the Teen Vogue box and was pretty happy I did. Here are the goodies…

The items were (with full-sized pricing listed):

  • Annick Goutal Petite Cherie fragrance $85
  • essie luxeffects nail polish $8
  • PETER THOMAS ROTH Max Anti-Shine Mattifying Gel $35
  • tarte LipSurgence lip tint $24
  • twistband Hair Tie 12/$18

There was also a ModCloth exclusive offer discount code included.

I’m not a ModCloth shopper so I doubt I’ll use that. I thought the fragrance smelled horrible (still stuck on the AMAZINGNESS of Juicy Couture from my January box.) I haven’t tried the anti-shine gel yet but can’t wait to- I NEED it.

My tarte lip tint broke right when I first went to use it. I ghettoed it up so I could still use it, and Birchbox gave me a refund- very good customer service. So far, I love how it feels and looks. The twistband might be my favorite thing though! I feel like it gives me the best ponytails I’ve ever had. I honestly might buy a 12 pack after how much I love this. I can’t explain it!!! Oh, and the essie. Of course it’s one I already have. I have both chunky glitters from the luxeffects collection so this was a letdown. I need to find a local Birchboxer who will tradesies with me!

I am glad I went with the Teen Vogue box! It was mostly due to essie that I chose it, which is ironic! But I was very happy with my loot! And B was happy with his birthday loot… so it was win/win over here.

Hope everyone had a great St Patrick’s Day weekend! Oh and don’t forget if you are interested in Birchbox, use this link!

  • That party looks awesome and I absolutely love the idea you had for people to write down why they’re happy he was born. That’s adorable and so thoughtful!

Also, I want that Birchbox! I hope they open up the subscriptions again, because I want one! Do you have to be a birchbox member to use that ModCloth code? Because I have two dresses in my cart over there that I’ve been debating buying…just sayin’ :)
